SOFTBACK BOOK £8.38 BUY HERE Barbarian warriors sweeping down from the mountains to raid villages, mercenaries protecting a wealthy caravan, tomb robbers searching for a prized artefact and knights with their retinues on a quest to save their doomed kingdom. All are epic tales of battle, brawn, brains and bravery … events worthy of a roleplaying game that puts everyone on the front-line, where each member of the group can fight their corner in a tough and uncompromising fantasy world, but where each brings to the fellowship a useful skill, vital to the mission’s success. Clash of Steel is a fantasy rules set that gives you fast-play combat that is both gritty and bloody, and that includes not just dice rolls – but choices. These mechanics have featured in the popular ancient history RPG Zenobia that was first published in 2001, as well as 43AD, a game of Roman legionaries out of their depth in terror laden Britannia. Here we present those rules divorced from any setting for you to run in your own fantasy games. What does Clash of Steel offer?

Todd S: I've been a fan of the combat system in Zenobia for a long time. I've even attempted to integrate it into other 2D6 games, but with my lack of game design knowledge it has never quite worked out. Thankfully Zozer Games has taken that system and made a "generic" game out of it with a broader selection of backgrounds and equipment than what is found in either Zenobia or 43AD. I'm not going to give up though. I still plan to integrate at least something similar to this combat system into other games. Until then I have some playing to do.
